Nui Tron Mountain (OP1) in 2004

Nui Tron Mountain (OP1) in 2004

This picture was provided by Kelly McFarlane, daughter of Glen McFarlane, during her tour of Vietnam in December 2004. Click the picture above to see her slideshow of the Nui Tron Mountain area and Quang Ngai City.

Note: This picture is of Nui Tron Mountain where OP1 was established. Previously, this geographical location was thought to be where FSB Hill 4-11 was located. However, Che Trung Hieu, a VC, has written to explain that this is Nui Tron Mountain. At the base of the mountain the VC built a memorial to commemorate their victory at the Battle of Ba Gia where they defeated elements of the 51st ARVN Regiment during the spring of 1965. The results of this battle was a turning point for the U.S. to send thousands of our troops to Vietnam. In other words, the war was escalated by the U.S. because of the poor performance by the ARVN. You can email Che Trung Hieu at chet...@vnn.vn if you would like further clarification about the location of the VC Memorial and Nui Tron Mountain.
