Les Stottle's Photos

LTC Leslie Stottle was the Battalion Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry during 1969 and 1970.  He retired from the Army as a Colonel and now lives in Honey Grove, Pennsylvannia.  He raises beef cattle and was instrumental in founding a non-profit medical evacuation heliport for his community.  When deer season is in, Les can actually sit on his porch to bag his quota.

This picture was taken on FSB 4-11 and shows the Change-of-Command ceremony when LTC George V. Ellis handed the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry and FSB 4-11 over to LTC Leslie Stottle in 1969.  Major General Lloyd B. Ramsey is conducting the ceremony.  SMG Huey P. Fautheree predicted the ceremony would bring incoming rounds from the enemy.  He was right.  This view from FSB 4-11 is looking toward the Northwest.  The northern tip of Pepper Ridge and the Horseshoe area can be seen in the background.

This is LTC Leslie Stottle, 1LT John F. Baxter, and SMG Huey P. Fautheree.  1LT Baxter was with the first unit from Alpha Company to sweep across FSB 4-11 in July of 1969 before the construction of the Firebase began.  SMG Fautheree was a key player in the construction of the Firebase.  This view from FSB 4-11 is looking toward the Northeast.  You can actually see a small sliver of the Song Tra Khuc River in the background as it winds its way to Quang Ngai City.
