John Secor, age 80, "slipped the surly bonds of earth" in the early hours of February 5, 2007 surrounded by those who loved him most, in the comfort of his favorite recliner. Surely he was welcomed home by his wife Frances and by Saint Peter flanked by many young soldiers whose names appear on The Wall.

John will be remembered as "The finest 1Sgt. in the US Army" by the many troops whose lives he touched and as the very best Pop to his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Frances (nee Lewis). He is survived by his children, Rod (Becky) Secor of Lumberton, Jill (Chuck) Curlis with whom he resided in Lumberton, Carol Compton of Mount Holly, Gordon Compton of Arlington, Virginia and Daniel (Kathy) Compton of Audubon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher and Tina Curlis, Steven, Kevin and Becca Secor, Terri Harris, Bonnie Rockhill, Wayne Mertz, Daniel and Holly Compton and Geoff and Gordon Compton. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

John was a true military man who loved nothing more than to discuss the tales of his times in the military having served twenty-six years in the US Army. He served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He next loved spending time talking with Christopher, Tina, Steven, Kevin and Becca. He was the "ultimate Pop" to them. He will be sadly missed by his constant companion, his dog Duchess.

Funeral Services will be held at PERINCHIEF CHAPELS, High Street, Mount Holly on Friday, February 9, 2007. Viewing from 10 AM to 1 PM. Interment at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
