Esmael Ramirez

Esmael "Smiley" Ramirez, age 62 passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Harlandale High School, a Vietnam veteran and purple heart recipient; he served in the US Army. Mr. Ramirez was employed with the US Post Office and retired after 30 years. Smiley was a true friend, generous and always willing to help others including our 4 legged friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Josefina Ramirez; son, Elliott Ramirez; daughters and sons in law, Emma and Brian and Everly and Alex; several brothers and a sister, cousins, and friends. A special thank you to Dr. Jesus Aguilar for all his help. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 19, at 5:00 PM with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, May 20, at 9:30 AM at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. Esmael Ramirez was a former member of Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division during the Vietnam War. He was a radioman and was wounded in a booby-trap incident on July 13, 1969, which also wounded Gene Brown and killed Jerry Manning.
