Please note the empty chair with the camouflage fatigues. This is to remember the POW/MIAs who are still absent today. July 19, 1985 was the National POW/MIA Day, which was recognized by The National League of POW/MIA Families.
Patriotism in its highest form is what's being celebrated today. The honored dead are the ultimate patriots. When love of country is thus measured, the loftiest general in the Pentagon must salute the lowliest private who has died under our flag.Setting aside one day a year to remember our war dead and POW/MIAs is small. Tribute: We can do nothing that even approaches repaying them for what they've done for us. It is a day to remind ourselves of the enormous price that has been paid on our behalf.
Let us never forget.
