This is an airstrike in the foothills southwest of FSB Hill 4-11.  Notice the bright flash from the bomb explosion.

In mid-December, 1970, a grunt from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry stepped on some pungi sticks about three or four miles west of FSB Hill 4-11.  Since a "dust-off" was unavailable at the time, the "Grim Reaper" shark flown by CW2 Jarvis "Sugar Bear" Gambrell (Shark 1) landed near the grunts' day laager to pick up the wounded grunt and transported him to Chu Lai. CW2 Fred Thompson (Shark 7) was the wingman that day and took this and the following picture.

Here you can see the grunts approaching the "Grim Reaper" after it landed.  To the right is their day laager position.  Notice all the poncho tents.
