Looking towards the other direction, you can see the "theater" again. On this side of the screen are the insignias of the 11th, 196th, and 198th Light Infantry Brigades along with their supporting battalion units. Behind the theater screen are two hootches that served as the Batchelor Officer Quarters (BOQs).

Along the beaches were rows of concertina wire and a line of bunkers. For the FNGs (F***ing New Guys), it was very impressive.

If it hadn't been for the concertina wire and the fortifications, the Combat Center would have looked liked a "Rest and Relaxation" (R&R) center. The beaches were very beautiful, the sand was soft, and the surf was gentle.

The chapel at the Combat Center was a place many soldiers visited during their first week in Vietnam. The chapel was located just to the north of the theater.
