Van, the Kit Carson Scout, went into a hootch where he found this AK-47 buried in the dirt.  Here, a soldier from A Company inspects the weapon.  The exterior of the weapon was very dirty but when the bolt was pulled back, the inside of the chamber was well-oiled and functional.

Shortly afterwards, A Company captured an NVA warrant officer from Hanoi, who had been recruiting in the area.  He was found in a nearby bunker.  Another VC, about 100 meters to the west, tried to get away by swimming across the river but was killed by M-79 fire from members of the Second Platoon.

Captain Vitters and Van met with other members of the company to plan the next move.  The captured NVA officer and some farmers led them to several buried drums of rice and other hidden supplies, including medical supplies.
